Humanity

I think that this is actually a very realistic portrayal of not only what black woman feel and go through but also of what any woman can feel and go through. That's why he assigned them colors, reflecting emotions. The women talk about being black and colored, but in all reality the shade of their skin is beside the point. Their stories are universal, just as the functions of the human soul are universal. All women can be red in passion and anger. All women can be yellow with sickness or cowardliness. All women can be green with envy. All women can be blue in the face. I think the title of the book is a pun--it says for "colored" girls who have considered suicide. Does that mean for girls with certain skin pigment or for girls whose insides reflect a certain emotion?
